About Our Church

Our church started in 1897 when a group of Episcopal Methodists began meeting in a rented space in Lakewood, eventually becoming the Lakewood Episcopal Methodist Church and then finally becoming the Lakewood Methodist Church, later building a church at Clifton Avenue and Third Street in 1912. In 1965 Greenville Methodist Church and Lakewood Methodist Church merged and together became Christ United Methodist Church of Lakewood. On the last Sunday of 1972 the entire congregation moved from Clifton Avenue in a grand parade through the streets of Lakewood to a new located on North Lake Drive was built a new church with an educational building and a Fellowship Hall called Christ Life Center.

Nowadays Lakewood is known as the second Israel because our town is home to 90,000 Orthodox Jewish. We are one church with two congregations, an English-Speaking congregation and Spanish-Speaking congregation. We are a faithful group of believers that worship and serve God with passion and love. We work hard to grow our church, reaching out to people in nearby communities. We also have a heart for serving the migrant Hispanic community in Lakewood through our Food Pantry.

Our church has faced challenges in the past and is facing challenges in the present, but we are full of faith and hope, and we work together for a better future knowing that nothing is impossible for God, and that God can make a way where is seems to be no way.
